Most people know how important it is to live a healthy life: exercise enough, eat healthily and be mentally balanced. But for many, working on their health feels like a big challenge or a troublesome obligation. But you can achieve a lot with tiny changes. This program shows how to add good habits to daily life in a fun way.
A healthy lifestyle has a major impact on how someone feels and behaves. Healthy people are more productive, more resilient and happier. In addition, a healthy way of life prevents many disorders, lifestyle diseases and other physical and mental complaints.
The problem is that taking steps towards a healthier lifestyle is often seen as being daunting or just plain boring – something you “have to do”. But healthy can go hand in hand with tasty and fun. Most importantly, everyone can find their own way to live a healthy life. Some people like to exercise several times a week, but people who don’t feel like exerting themselves can get their physical activity in other ways. And you really don’t have to be a "foodie" to prepare healthy and delicious food.
But as Plato wrote, “Let no one persuade you to cure the head, until he has first given you his soul to be cured.” You can also achieve a lot for your mind by having short daily “moments”: occasionally reflecting on the here and now, establishing contact with loved ones, or thinking about which goals are important to you.
The Vitality program, with its short tasks, provides concrete tools to take steps towards a healthier lifestyle. The program has been developed in collaboration with general practitioners and other healthcare providers from the Utrecht region of The Netherlands. Participants find the tasks to be fun, engaging and simple to do. And they affirm that the tasks have a positive impact on the rest of the day.
